Mining Operations
Sea Turtle Mining has begun and Digi is now working hard!
After a few expensive stumbles and some patience, we received our first set of mining rigs and pretty much went crazy from there. We decided we are going to support several different crypto algorithms in order to bring high efficiency and ecofriendly hashrates to various pools.
Our first choice was Chia. This is a coin that takes a lot less electricity to support. It was an interesting journey, but after careful consideration of many factors, we decided to abandon supporting Chia mining.
Our second choice was Sai. We are using a Goldshell HS5 miner to produce .278j/h and contribute 5.4Th/s to the ecosystem. That continues to crunch away!
Of course, SHA-256 / Bitcoin has another area of focus. The Bitmain S19J 100T rigs for the purpose of bringing energy efficient hash capacity (.031j/Gh) to the Bitcoin pools. They arrived and we saw the first glimpse of life on July 6th. Now they are happily chugging away and the best part is we are matching these highly efficient miners with a company that sits in the middle of a wind farm!
We are hosting at a Mining Store location, unlocking hidden green energy and making it available to miners. The is a great opportunity for us to support Wind producers and benefit from trapped power.
Thanks to our inspiration and co-founder (Ramona), we acquired more S19J’s and even a Innosilicon A10 Pro+ in order to provide efficient hashrates to Etherium and also other lesser known algorithms.e have now expanded into Ethash (Etherium), Blake256R14 (DCR), Kadena (KDA) and Eaglesong (CKB) as well.
We are leveraging the the Mineitor farm management system and are working with them to support our expanding farm across our miner brands and models. They recently quickly repackaged their software to support the latest model of Raspberry Pi 4 so I could deploy controllers across my network. These folks are very responsive and hard at work to expand their capabilities even to us smaller miners!
The biggest news is that we are now looking into the benefits of immersion cooling. This is using non-conductive liquids to cool the computers instead of air. This has the benefit of reduced noise, reduced electricity use (projected to be 35% because you don’t need fans) and you can run them at higher performance levels. As we are getting close, we have narrowed the field and aligned with where Submer is heading regarding Crypto Mining support. Their scalable crypto solution is at an optimal price point and also leverages the benefits of a single integrated unit for smaller installation, and the ability to scale to 10+ MW. Look forward to bringing this into our operations!
The fleet continues to grow as Sea Turtle Mining has completed its next round of growth. We are now including Bitmain L7 rigs and another batch of Bitmain S19J rigs to the fleet in December. We have also selected Compass Mining as a second hosting organization and will be hosting out of their 100% renewable hydro powered data center in South Carolina! We are super excited to see another set of Digi’s go to work!
