There are many ways that sea turtles and their natural habitats are negatively affected.  Whether its disease, physical injury or changes to the environment they live in.  There are many ways we are negatively impacting their home ranging from industrial pollution to single use plastics and ghost fishing nets.

Many caring individuals are involved in organizations who are directly and indirectly working hard to change the bigger environmental picture while many making a direct impact now.

The Turtle Hospital

We are starting by supporting The Turtle Hospital located in Marathon Florida.  After spending the better part of a day there seeing all the amazing things they are doing to help Sea Turtles heal and recover from injuries and disease, this became the source of Mercedes’ inspiration (and the company name!)

With Sea Turtle Mining up and running, we wanted to immediately share and continue our support by adopting both April and Montel.  We also made a “sea turtle” level donation to help keep things going!

You can get involved and support these amazing folks and what they are doing, please visit them at http://www.turtlehospital.org/

Sea Turtle Inc.

Mercedes picked a second organization for us to support, one that is based right here in Texas.  Sea Turtle Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to public education, medical response and other positive activities helping sea turtles in the Gulf of Mexico.  Recently, when Texas experienced a massive freeze, these folks sprung into action to help rescue thousands of turtles who were cold stunned and relocate them to shelters so they could warm up and ultimately be returned to the Gulf (NPR article here).  We have not been to their South Padre facility yet but have already sponsored and donated.

You can actively support them and help continue their great work by visiting their website at http://www.seaturtleinc.org.
